Collectable coins.

Collectable coins can be split into two categories, official and private issues. Both should be avoided. Paying £100 for £10 worth of gold is crazy. Quite often, private companies approach a poor sovereign state, with a money making scheme. Lets us make a coin in your currency and we will sell it. This is how coins bearing the queen of England have come into being. They are legal tender, on some south pacific/ Atlantic atoll, but they are generally sold at many multiples of the cost.

Official mint issues are similar. Often promoted as “limited edition” proof strikes, but generally are not worth the premium. Yes, they are “pretty”, but pretty does not mean rare. Any premium over melt is often a waste of money.
