BENEFITS OF OWNING RARE SILVER

  • Privacy From Government Intrusion.
  • Safety and Security.
  • Insurance in a Financial Crisis.
  • Leverage Over Bullion Prices.
  • Fixed / Falling Supply.

Affordable.

A great investment for around the price of a bottle of scotch.

PRICES FOR INDIVIDUAL COINS CAN START FROM AS LOW AS £15 - £20 for run of the mill circulated coins, Historically this premium has been as high as 250% over melt.

It is estimated that only 7% of the original Morgan production still survive, with less than 2 % considered un circulated or Mint State. With almost one ounce of 90% pure silver, more than 650,000,000 of these coins were made, but most have been subjected to massive melting’s.

In 1918 alone 270,323,722 silver dollars were melted down, destroying supply and again in 1980's when silver hit $50 an ounce, many millions of coins were lost forever.

In 1917, the Pittman Act called for the melting of some 270 million Morgan Silver Dollars. There were also other government actions that were responsible for the destruction of tens of millions of coins for their bullion content, removing more mint state coins from existence and creating a collector's market that is still vibrant.

Key Dates and Rarities

These genuine legal tender silver coins were produced in five separate mints: Philadelphia, New Orleans, Denver, San Francisco and Carson City, but they're not all equal so which is the best buy?

Each mint is identifiable by its unique mint mark, located below the eagle's tail feather. A complete set of Morgan Silver dollars consist of almost 100 individual coins, one from each year, and from each mint where they were struck. Another option is select only one coin from each year, regardless of mint, totalling just 30 coins. Or one coin from each of the 5 mints regardless of year.

Our recommendation is to STICK WITH KEY DATES AND RARITIES. These are the coins that have the lowest production figures, and highest condition

CARSON CITY

The Carson City mint produced only 2% of all the Morgan dollars struck, only 12,000,000 coins from a total production of almost 650 million. Within the 13 dates that the Morgan was made at Carson City there are three key dates coins:

The 1879 CC shown below, of which only 756,000 coins were made, the 1889 CC with a production of just 350,000 coins, and the 1893 CC, the last year of production before the mint was closed.

Although there were 677,000 coins made in 1893 very few were released to the public.

for an 1889 CC the lowest grade certified coin will cost in the region of $2,000.

In Extra Fine 45 condition it is close to $4,000.

Almost Un-circulated 50 is around $9000, And once it reaches Mint State 60 (lowest Un-circulated grade) the price jumps to $21,000 while a specimen certified and graded Mint State 65 (MS65) is a staggering $250,000. NGC has only certified 4 coins at MS65 and only one has been graded higher at MS67.

The New Orleans Mint

"O Mint."

Morgan dollars from the New Orleans Mint are relatively common in most dates, but have a habit of being weakly struck. We don’t know why, but it is theorised that the steam powered mint press striking the coins did not have enough power to make sharp, detailed strikes. This makes high grade O mint coins very desirable for the collector trying to assemble a high grade set.

Philadelphia Mint

The main United States mint is in Philadelphia. All coins from the branch mints have a unique identifiable mint mark. Philadelphia does not. Identifiable by their lack of mint mark, P mint Morgan’s generally have the highest production.

It's tempting to turn your nose up at these coins, but don't. With a production of only 10,000 coins in 1895, all of them Proof pieces specially struck for collectors, the 1895 coins stand out. Prices for this rarity start from $14,000 in Extra Fine 45 condition, and are priceless in MS65, with past auctions reaching 7 figures.

LIQUIDITY AND PERFORMANCE

Although produced in immense numbers very few have survived government and private meltings, but enough to be. This gives the series a liquidity second to none, and we believe you

Today, with our paper currencies backed just by a promise, it is hard to appreciate that these coins were made for use in daily transactions from sophisticated New York to the rawhide rough Wild West. They settled debts for everything from paying the bar keep for your whiskey to stabling your horses, or for a long awaited bath after weeks on a cattle drive. As soon as the coin entered circulation it immediately began to deteriorate in condition, loosing lustre, being damaged and with the softer precious metals worn flat. That's why good examples represent an excellent opportunity.

We believe that Morgan Silver Dollars in “Brilliant Uncirculated” mint condition will FAR OUTPERFORM SILVER BULLION IN A HOT SILVER MARKET. The finite supply of this classic Silver coin, coupled with rising bullion prices, is the key. IT IS THIS “DOUBLE PROFIT” OPPORTUNITY that makes the Morgan Dollars most attractive.

As silver prices rise, Morgan Silver Dollars rise with it, hand in hand. There are surges and jumps in Silver Dollar prices based on availability and demand. As the current bull market takes hold we expect a huge amount of demand within the Morgan series, and possibly even more mass meltings which will make surviving specimens even more difficult to locate in high mint state condition.

It's an opportunity worth taking seriously.
